Men are known for having man caves. A place that is designed with a manly feel to do manly things. Many times these “man caves” are used as an escape from the reality of husband and fatherly duties. They become places to hang out with the guys and let the inner child come out. Men take delight in their man caves however simple or elaborate they may be.

In 1 Samuel 22 we find David in his man cave. This cave is much different than the modern areas of escape from responsibility. In fact, David’s man cave was a place where he was prepared to face his responsibility. David entered the Cave of Adullam as he was fleeing from Saul. David enters the cave and is joined by countless men who were in distress, in debt, and bitter in soul. Later in 2 Samuel 23 we find some of these men exiting the cave as David’s “mighty men of valor.” This cave became a place where growth took place. A place where these men learned discipline and received instruction. It was a place of true brotherhood that changed their destiny. David and these men did not just sit around in the cave and discuss their favorite war experience. We have all indication that they were intentional about growing in might to face the outside world. They understood the power of brotherhood.

Men, we all need a man cave in our life. Not the kind where we escape our God given responsibilities but the kind where through Godly brotherhood we step into our calling. A place where we join with brothers in the faith to stand firm as men of God. Will you commit to finding such a place in your life and be found a mighty man of valor? More importantly, will you commit to finding such men in your life who will join you in the journey of Godliness?

No matter how strong or self sufficient we may think we are, we can not do this life alone. We need each other. We need others who will get real with us and join us in training and in battle. God has created you to be a mighty man of valor. Are you doing your part to prepare for the fight?
