About 5 years ago I was laying in bed one night thinking about a number of things that I was currently facing. I was giving these struggles to the Lord and seeking his wisdom for how to move forward. This led into a time of fellowship with the Lord as he began to remind me of the call he has placed on the lives of men throughout scripture. This night was a clear reminder that God has created men to be leaders who shepered well in the face of the enemies attacks. That night was also a clear conviction that God is calling Christian men today to man up and live with purpose. In that moment God placed the term "missional manhood" on my heart.

Missional Manhood is a ministry to men birthed out of this personal time of conviction with the Lord. The vision is to lead men to rediscover what it means to be a man created in the image of God. As I look across the church today I see men living passively in the home and in the community. Men have given away their God given right to lead and to fight for what matters.

If you enter any elementary Sunday School room on Sunday morning you will find girls playing with dolls and boys acting like little warriors conquering the world. God has designed men with an innate desire to fight. We must use that energy to fight the enemy on the battleground that God has given us. However, men today are not doing this.

Divorce is just as common in the church as outside the church. A recent poll on our Instagram page revealed the number one struggle of Christian men is pornography or some other sexual related sin. Adultery is common in the Christian home. Christian men do not know how to read/study the Bible and they certainly do not know how to lead their family in the Word of God. Satan is attacking us at the core of what we were designed to be. Think with me for a moment...

God created Adam from the dust of the Earth in God's image. It was not good that Adam was alone so God created Eve to be his wife. Eve was another human being like Adam but anatomically different from Adam. God called Adam to love and lead her, to cherish her, and to protect her from evil. God gave them marriage to love and enjoy. He gave them the gift of sex to enjoy and to be a means to fill the earth. Yet, Satan soon comes along and twists what God has said. Eve begins a discussion with the devil - where was Adam?! Adam quickly gave up his right to lead and protect Eve and thus sin enters the world and here we are today.

Men are not listening and obeying the Word of God. Men are not taking seriously their headship to lead and protect. Men have fallen for sexual perversion instead of cultivating a healthy married sexual life. We live in a world where men are listening more to what the world (Satan) says about sex than what God, the giver of it, says about it. Men are looking for forbidden fruit instead of enjoying the bread of life. Men are sitting back and letting others lead.

The ministry of Missional Manhood wants to see this change. We want to see men become fully devoted followers of Christ. We want to see men cherish their wives and have eyes for them only. We want to see men father their children well. We want to see men grow in prayer and the Word of God so that they can use their warrior instinct to push back the powers of spiritual darkness.

All of this will take place through leading the church to take men's ministry seriously. We want to see this developed at FBC Greenville but we also want to encourage other churches to equip their men well. If you are reading this and you are a part of another church body, I would love to come speak and share with your men's group/event and encourage you too.

God is on the move in the hearts of men. Wherever you are, don't be left out.
