Can I Help You Please?

The other day I was in a retail store. My daughter and I were looking for a camera. Needing some help and seeing some young ladies standing around, I eased over close to them and “looked” in need of some help. You know what they did? Nothing.

That’s right. Nothing. They just stood there and talked to each other. What were they thinking? I needed help. Couldn’t they tell? Didn’t they care? Wasn’t it their job to help those in need?

Wait a minute! Am I guilty of doing the same? When I’m around the spiritually lost, do I share with them the hope found in Jesus? If they need spiritual advise, am I perceptive enough to know it and then share it? Or am I guilty of ignoring those in need of Jesus? I guess if we’re honest, we’ve all dropped the ball evangelistically at one time or another. But that doesn’t mean we have to get it wrong every time. The next time the Lord brings someone into your life who needs to hear about Jesus step right up and ask, “Can I help you, please?”

Dressed and Ready

Have you ever notice how so many days start out the same? You get up. You get ready. You get dressed. Then you go to work, school, etc. This is not a bad thing. Routines are normal and healthy. I think routines are even Godly.

Think about God’s routine. We rebel…God loves. We sin…God forgives. We walk away…God chases after us. Like a loving parent who desires the best for their child, God faithfully–routinely–seeks our best. I’m glad he does. Aren’t you?

OMG!

I’ve noticed lately that “OMG!” seems to be the cool thing to say if you’re a teenager. My girls were watching a popular show on TV the other night, and the actors said it, too. So, I was wondering, what does “OMG” stand for?

How about:
(1) Oh my gizzard!
(2) Open my guitar!
(3) Oops, messy guts!
(4) Omnipresent mysterious God!
(5) Oh, more gravy!
(6) Okay, mustard greens!
(7) Oh, messy grits!
(8) Owed more gas!
(9) Over my grasp!
(10) Ole Miss game!

Okay…I know what it really stands for: “Oh My God!” And just so you know, God doesn’t like it when we use His name like that. What if I said:

(1) Oh my James!
(2) Oh my Jack!
(3) Oh my Susan!

You get the point. It sounds silly. So the next time you get surprised, how about stopping just short of blasphemy. “Oh my” will work just fine.

God’s Blog

So I was thinking…if God blogged, what would He say? Then it occurred to me that God has blogged. He wrote down His message to us long ago. It’s called the Bible.

When I read the Bible–and I read it often and daily–I discover new and refreshing things about God. He teaches me how to live. He teaches me how to love others. He even teaches me how to have faith in Him.

I’m glad God gave us the Bible. Without it, we’d have to guess what He is like. But with it, we can know for sure. If you haven’t read God’s blog lately, check it out.

The Best Burrito in the World

Mexican food has nothing to do with Christianity, except that it helps keep you “on fire” for Jesus and “spices” up your life. I love mexican food. I don’t just like it…I love it. In fact, my favorite words in Spanish are: taco, burrito, and cheese dip!

When I was in Houston with my folks back in December I made a point to visit a local restaurant called Chuy’s. Some friends if mine introduced me to it a little over a year ago. I’ve only tried one thing on the menu. Once I tried it, there was no need to look any further. It’s the steak and cheese burrito with cracked green chili pepper sauce on top. When you order it, ask for a side of the house jalapeno-ranch dipping sauce. (It helps take the burn out of the green chili pepper sauce.) I’d drive 8 hours any day for that burrito!!!

Why am I telling you all this? Two reasons. (1) If you’re ever in Houston or close to Houston, you’ve got to visit Chuy’s and ask for the steak and cheese burrito. (2) When you find something good, it’s worth going back for more.

That’s how it is with Jesus, too. The more time you spend with Jesus, the more of Jesus you want. You just can’t get enough of him. He fills your soul, he fills your heart, he fills every fiber of your being with his love and grace.

If you’ve never tried that burrito, make a point to do so if you’re in Houston. If you’ve never tried Jesus, make a point to spend some time with him today. You won’t regret either decision!
