Little Boys & Puppy Dog Tails

Do you know what Thanksgiving Day at my mother’s house was like? My family (6 people) and my brother’s family (2 people + 1 dog), and my sister’s family (2 people) all crammed into my Mom’s house (2 people). That’s right…12 people and 1 dog!!!

We all hovered in one room–the den–and watched my son, who is four, constantly chase the dog around the room. Did I say constantly? I really meant to say that he never, never, never stopped chasing the dog!

My son loves dogs–our dogs, my brother’s dog, any dog. He’d sleep with the dogs, bathe with the dogs, play with the dogs, even eat with the dogs if we let him. There’s no friend better to a little boy than his dog.

It’s not like that if you have a cat. If you’re a cat lover, well, God loves you too, but a cat’s not the same as a dog. Have you ever seen a little boy rough-house with a cat? (I’ve seen scratch marks on a little boy where he tried to rough-house with a cat!) Cats and little boys just don’t mix.

Cat’s sit to the side of the room or hide under the bed when little boys show up. Dogs on the other hand will run up to little boys ready to play.

Here’s my point. Our God wants to be a part of your life. He wants to run with you and play with you and work with you. He doesn’t want to sit off to the side of your life. But as I watch people, that’s how they expect Him to act. They want God to sit on the sidelines of life until they need Him.

I challenge you to chase after the Lord and allow Him to chase after you. Life’s too short to keep the one who loves you the most sitting on the sidelines.

Testing, 1, 2, 3…

So, now I’m blogging.  I’ve been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.  As if email, text messaging, and cell phones were not enough, now I’m blogging.

What’s the point of it all, you ask?  Well, there’s no point really.  Just an open and authentic conversation about Christianity.  As I ride down the road, I often think out loud and sometimes those thoughts are a raw examination of our faith.  I thought you’d like to get inside my head and join the conversation, but since that’s impossible (and you should be glad that’s impossible) I thought I’d give you the next best alternative.  That’s right…a blog.

So, welcome to “Think Outloud.”  I look forward to your comments as we take an authentic look at Christianity.
